Well, what a month April has been for great riding, with an awesome ride to Snake Island, followed up with this weekend’s ride at Wombat Crossing, Boisdale.
Erin, Rod and I left home Saturday afternoon after the girls had finished their Netball duties. We should have left home a bit earlier, as we were having trouble finding Mick’s markers in the dark. (Yeah forgot about putting them up after he left home.) A couple of phone calls later, we ended up with Glen showing us the way. (Thank god, as we could have been driving around all night.) With the horses unloaded and settled in for the night, and our beds made, it was time for Dinner and Drinks and plenty of laughter around the camp fire. (No garlic steak and Bailey’s for Kev this trip.)
With morning finally arriving after a very windy night it was time to pack up and get the horses ready for the ride ahead, after bacon and eggs for breakfast, of course. With 14 riders attending and the ride rules read out, don’t forget your glasses next time Mick; it was time to mount and head off. Heading through the scrubby bush tracks, over logs, down and into a dry creek bed, up and down hills it was challenging riding. With Erin facing a steep hill decent, she turned around with a horrid look on her face, to say “I feel sick”. Don’t worry I said, you will be ok. Just hang on tight and steer him down the hill. You will manage, and she did, to her relief. With a couple of river crossings, Erin nearly pushing Mick off into the river, getting one back, and more hilly, scenic bush tracks we were finally back at camp where Brian and Rod had been busy cooking the snags and onions for lunch. Well done guys, great job.
Thanks Glen and Mick for a great scenic and challenging ride.
Looking forward to attending the next Wombat ride.
