We gathered at Allison's property atop the rolling hills of Boolarra with the promise of the heat to come. Some having trouble getting up the hill with two horses had to de-float and walk or ride up. Saddling the horses and trying to stay in the shade 15 riders gathered around for muster. Muster done we all prepared to mount. Mick was mounting Lady when she decided to step forward with Mick in mid air, he came down with a pretty hard bump, a few people rushing over to check on him. Mick took a few to recover then got on Lady and off we set with Janine leading the ride with 13 horses two ponies, Diana and Maddie onboard them adding 2 new members to our Club, welcome.
Riding along at a leisurely pace the day got hotter and all welcomed the shade of the trees when they came. With numerous stops so we could bunch up the shade became the place to stop. As we hit the Morwell River road Alex came to Nev's rescue after a desperate phone call ahead from Di. With the Morwell River Rd came a few cars being Sunday most did the right thing but some don't seem to understand the waving of the hand to slow down particularly one young female P plate driver.
Eric the stallion on Lillian’s place was on the hill so a quick warning to Allison was yelled as her horse was on heat, we passed without incident as Eric stayed up top.
It had been a quiet and peaceful ride and Emma commented how quiet it was without my hubby then as we reached Apex park we were harassed by a very noisy rattly ute (Dave) and as he turned around to leave there were a few comments yelled for him to get a quieter car.
Â
All was forgiven when he re-appeared at Fox and Fanckes bridge with bottles of water and other drinks for after the ride. Medicinal for Mick of course. Some stood in line to hose the horses, getting a bit of spray coming off Smudge silly me made a comment about it being nice so Sandra decided to give me a few drops more very refreshing but dried off to quick. After tending the horses we all wandered down to the house where Keith had put hay bales around for us to sit on under a tree everyone ate and with a new audience in Dianna and Maddie Dave started with a couple of jokes. A big Thank you to Keith and Allison and all the other riders who constantly make our rides friendly and enjoyable. Another great day had by all. Â
