Henderson Reserve - First Club Ride for 2022

First ride for Red Rivers Club was held on 19th February, 2022 at Henderson Reserve Jimboomba. Although the day promised sultry weather 15 riders including 2 new Junior members, Alley Reid and Emma Forbes and a new Adult – Belinda Price, set off in high spirits riding through Melaleuca Wetlands, then in places adjacent to & crossing the old Beaudesert to Bethania rail line. Several of the lovely old timber trestle rail bridges could be seen. Interestingly enough there were slightly different designs used but all were still in place – imagine the man hours and the hand tools that would have been used in their construction !! We passed a huge lagoon on our way to our Smoko stop which was at a park next to a Commercial/Industrial Estate but with a stand of trees and dense shade where the ponies were tethered.

Our ride onwards to the lunch spot had us riding alongside the old rail line behind some acreage blocks and the overabundance of quite high numbers of Kangaroos was a sight that was a little out of the ordinary to some of the riders. The “tunnels” of shade - made by not only the trees at the back of the acreage blocks but also the dense growth of trees and undergrowth that have grown up since the railway line was closed – gave us welcome respite from the heat.

A few minutes before we arrived at another lovely park with shelters & seating, toilets and lovely waterholes, the forecast mid day rain fell. However perhaps 20-30 mins later it ceased and with the arrival of the “Chuck Wagon” driven by Sharon it saw many helpers ferrying the wonderful lunch across to the Shelter table. Kay Wilson you certainly did us proud !! – a tablecloth no less on which there were an array of selections to choose from – Damper, Tossed Salad as well as single salad items, grilled sausages and onion along with 2 types of Marinated Chicken pieces (oh so yummy) as well as a choice of 2 desserts – chocolate coated marshmallow, with a sprinkling of nuts on a biscuit base and the piece de resistance were the assortment of cup cakes, vanilla or chocolate elegantly adorned with the most amazing topping that I swear glistened !!! I can testify to the fact that they indeed tasted as good as they looked – thank you Jenny, your Cup Cakes were divine - for those of you who would like to learn more check out Jenny’s fb page Melted Creations.

To all who helped with the lunch you spoilt us and thanks to all involved in organizing the ride, Linda, Kay, Charmane etc. along with the members in the roles of Ride Leader, First Aid Officer and Maurice who does an excellent job of being our Tail End Charlie.
