March – MOONLIGHT CAMP – Saturday 23rd & Sunday 24th March 2013

Saturday arrival 5.00pm> for 7pm ride out                      Sunday arrival 7am> for 10am ride out

Saturday -After a BYO BBQ dinner starting approx 5pm all Welcome, including non riders,  the ride will head off at 7pm for approx 2 hours through the beautiful Rosedale/Turretfield district (made famous by McLeods Daughters), maybe a trot on the way out & walk only on way back (will be darkish). Terrain is mainly gentle with a few rocks to negotiate. Some gravel/dirt road but mainly paddock work with a river crossing likely.  The moon rises at 4.40pm & the sun sets at 7.23pm so we should have enough light for the ride (83% moon), hopefully with no clouds.

To participate Riders must wear reflective clothing (hi-vis with reflective strips), & it is advisable to take a torch or head light (worn on helmet). (some spare vests should be available for those who do not have hi-vis reflective gear).

After the Saturday ride please stay on for a social evening with all to bring nibbles to share - all Welcome, including non riders.  For those who wish you are welcome to camp the night so that you can have a few drinks before bed & not have to drive home……& be bright eyed & bushy tailed for the Sunday ride. Sunday -After a BYO breakfast (BBQ available to cook on) the ride will head off at 10am for approx 2 hours through another trail in the same area, with a trot likely. Terrain is mainly gentle with a few rocks to negotiate. Some gravel/dirt road but mainly paddock work with a river crossing.  Again, those not camping are welcome to come early & have breakfast before the ride.  

Parking/camping in creek paddock - no horse yards so portable yards/electric fence will be needed for those camping overnight. Drinking water for horses available.  BBQ, toilet and shower (if your game as it is outside) available to use. Directions- Rosedale is 6km due north of Sandy Creek, halfway between Sandy Creek and She-Oak Log.

From Gawler, take the Lyndoch Road. 1 km past the Sandy Creek Hotel, take the road to the left. There is a cut off to make the turn easier. This is Rosedale Rd. Follow this road approx 5km until you come into the 50kph zone of the Rosedale township. You will soon see on your left the cemetery on the right is Richards place # 508 Rosedale Rd, the driveway with a pipe rail on the bridge side of the drive. If you miss this driveway you will have to continue across the bridge to be able to turn around. On your return swing wide to enter the driveway as it is at an angle to the road.

For those coming from She-Oak Log or Roseworthy, you need to find your way to Gomersal Rd and find Turretfield Rd. This is a dirt/gravel road. Follow this through to Rosedale, cross the bridge and # 508 Rosedale Rd is the first on the left after crossing the bridge. Remember to swing wide to enter the driveway.

Cost:- ATHRA member $2 ride fee/day. Non ATHRA member riding visitor fee $25/day (please be advised that if you are not a member of ATHRA you will need to be sponsored by an ATHRA member to ride).  Please have the correct money.
