DIRECTIONS: This ride will be starting at Beckie Escriva's arena located at 299 Black River Road Black River (clearly marked). Enter gates and please secure gate behind you. Travel along the unsealed road and PAST the first house on your left. Keep going and you will come to the arena. You will be shown where to park. No dogs are permitted on the ride.
COST: $3 per rider. $5 for drink and morning tea.
WATER & HORSE FEED: Human drinking water available or can be purchased. Horse water is also available, bring your own buckets please.
TERRAIN, DISTANCE AND DEGREE OF DIFFICULTY: Ride is considered to be easy, there will be some riding in Black River if safe to do so (guided by experienced Black River rider) and also some riding beside roads. Terrain is easy going. The majority is sandy or hard packed soil. Please make suitable arrangements for your horse’s feet. If it is considered unsafe to ride in Black River due to rain then we will shorten the ride and spend time in the arena working with our horses and/or playing some horse sports games if people are interested.
ATHRA: This ride is sanctioned by ATHRA and all riders are bound by the Rules & Regulations of the Club and the ATHRA Code of Conduct. * Riders under 18 yo must wear an approved helmet and under 16yo must have a nominated guardian on the ride. * It is recommended that riders wear full length trousers, sleeved shirt and sunscreen. * Riders must wear suitable smooth soled riding footwear which prevents the foot sliding forward through stirrup iron or getting caught (no chunky soles are permitted). * It is the responsibility of the rider of each horse to ensure that all riding equipment is regularly checked, well maintained and correctly fitted. The minimum equipment required is a saddle with stirrups and girth and appropriate head gear (bridle). The use of halters is only permitted where both horse and rider have demonstrated effective control. * Ribbons in horse tails: Green for young horse or rider. Red for horse that kicks or is prone to kick.
PAPERWORK: All riders/visitors/volunteers are to sign ‘Attendance Register’ BEFORE ride commences. Day ($35) or new members (Adults $105 & Under 18's $45) are to pay money and fill out forms BEFORE ride commences please.
BIOSECURITY ALERT: In order to minimise risk to other persons, their horses, and the livelihood of the property owners, it is essential that horses showing any signs of possible infectious diseases; in particular Hendra infection, do not attend any trail ride. The Trail Boss has the authority to turn away any horse which is considered suspect. Horses should also have their own feed/water containers.
