NOMINATING: If you wish to attend, please enter your name and mobile number, and your emergency contact’s name and mobile, in the nomination below and email it to alg_salter@bigpond.com . A separate nomination must be completed for each individual attending, riders & non-riding alike. Please also advise if you wish to attend the local Landsborough Hotel each night for dinner.
I, name & mobile, wish to nominate for the Geoff Jolly Memorial Camp & Trail Ride at Landsborough between Friday the 3rd and Tuesday 7th November 2023. I declare that if I am knowingly exposed to Covid-19, or experience cold or flu like symptoms prior to the event, I WILL NOT ATTEND. My Emergency Contact is name and mobile.
VENUE: Landsborough Community Recreation Reserve, is accessed off Burke or McKinlay Streets, Landsborough. Participants may arrive at the venue from midday Friday the 3rd November. You may choose to stay for all, or as many days as you are able, but please advise your proposed attendance dates when nominating. Unfortunately, due to works at the Complex, we will not be able to have our usual catered Sunday Night dinner there).
FACILITIES: Camping is permitted around the reserve or on the adjacent paddock (over a bridge from reserve). There is ample room (accommodates goosenecks and trucks) with flat, well grassed sites, and good access roads. There is a large shed where we will socialize, and showers and toilet facilities. The club will also provide additional portable toilets close to the shed, with facilities for tea and coffee, music etc., and will be open 24/7. The Club is purchasing firewood and a communal camp fire will be established, BUT NO INDIVIDUAL CAMP FIRES ARE PERMITTED. BYO portable yards, electric taped yards preferred as there is no communal paddock. A trailer will be available to collect horse manure, please bring a chaff bag or 2 for manure to assist with collection. Arrangements have been made for locals to collect all manure bags. The area abounds with wineries and places of interest to visit, the townships of Stawell, Ararat and Avoca within easy travelling distance.
RIDES: We will be riding in the beautiful Pyrenees Ranges on the 2002 Quilty tracks, modified to suit our needs, (and make it easier). A very easy casual ride will be arranged on Friday afternoon for those interested. Rides will be conducted on each of the days, and will vary from day rides with saddlebag lunch, to morning and afternoon rides with lunch at the venue. For those who remember Geoff Jolly, I will be riding to the Landsborough Ridge during the camp to “reflect” where we scattered his ashes. You are welcome to join me.
This is gold mining country, at times hard and rough underfoot, and tracks vary from steep hills to flat and undulating. Horses will require a reasonable degree of fitness and should be adequately shod, or at least booted up if barefoot. There will be a horseless muster prior to each ride. Horse numbers for each ride are restricted to 30 or less to comply with Parks Victoria rules.
PARTICIPATION FEE: The cost for the weekend is $40 per person, or $50 per family. This covers the hire of the venue, toilet hire, 24/7 tea and coffee, camp fire wood provided, and all ride fees. Camp fees should be paid by direct deposit, into the Club’s Account with the Bendigo Bank, BSB 633-000, Account Number 155 873 003, please quote your name with a reference “Landsborough 23”.
HOTEL DINNERS EACH NIGHT: Arrangements have been made for dinners each night at the Landsborough Pub, so please indicate if interested when nominating. No driving involved, just a short walk across the road.
FOOD AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: You must bring all your personal food, drink and camping requirements; as well as all your horse feed, rugs, portable yards, buckets, feed bags for manure collection etc. If bringing hay please bring only clean weed free hay or Lucerne.
