Ride Description
We are back! First ride of 2024 and we are off to the pub!
Expect some hills (may be deemed steep by some) inclines and descents they are not long. May be slippery if wet. Nothing massive we are on the lower side of the mountain.
Some wide open tracks around the pine plantation under the train line via a short tunnel. The tunnel has a rutted out entrance at present and a considerable puddle to exit owing to weather. Once back on the regional park side we will wind around some well marked tracks and single trails. There will be multiple small water crossing at the bottom of short decents and then sharp inclines. You must be able to maintain a walk through these and be mindful of riders in front and behind you. We will make our way to the Mount Macedon Pub. This should take us about 2-2.5hrs. Lunch will be a leisurely affair. We have a short return ride back to float taking around 30mins. This will be mainly a walking ride due not long enough spaces to get a group moving along before you are going up or down again but we shall see.
It’s pretty, cool if a hot day, plenty of water for horses to drink on the way round. If it’s wet, it’s real wet!!!
Even if we walk the entire ride your horse will be sweaty it’s not flat riding.
Ride Distance/duration Estimated distance - approx 15km
Estimated duration - approx 2 -2.5 hours to pub. Lunch. 30min ride back to floats after lunch. We will be back to floats between 3-4pm.
*Note: These are estimates only and can change subject to weather, trail conditions, issues with horses and so on Conditions Equines should have regularly trimmed hooves, which are either well-conditioned to barefoot riding, or should be booted or shod as we will travel over various surfaces. There will be hills!
