Club History
Tinderry Trail Horse Riders Inc began before the new millennium. A small group of like minded riders rallied around Don Munns who knows the local area and landowners well. This gave us access to a wide range of interesting and often very challenging trails.
By 2002 it became evident that joining ATHRA would provide landowners the necessary reassurance to allow us to continue to access their land for riding. Joining ATHRA also meant we could enjoy rides organized by other affiliated clubs and members took advantage of the weekend charity rides run by Bombala, Bibbenluke and Cathcart. This prompted us to hold our own at Michelago Station and later at Kelly’s Hay Shed. Extended ‘mountain rides’ in Namadgi National Park or Koscuiosko National Park were also popular.
Since those early days the club has broadened in age group and level of experience and to accommodate this, the club has formalized its ride calendar. Official club rides are now conducted on the first Saturday of every month and detailed ride plans are sent to members a couple of weeks ahead of the ride so they can assess whether they will participate. The ‘mountain rides’ are still organized by some members but are not included on our official calendar as they are only suitable for the hardy, experienced riders and horses among us.
Our aim is to provide safe, well planned rides where members can relax and enjoy the great company of like minded people and spectacular riding country that is often not accessible to the general public.
