Wanderas - A History From 17/11/2004
Wandera'ers the (original spelling) was formed at our first meeting at Brian and Marylyn Clarke's property "Mungererie" on the 17/11/2004. We were a group of riders who had met through other trail riding clubs and decided to form our own. Our own name courtesy of Gordon Fearnside was named after Wandera Mountain just out the back of Moruya-Mogo.
Our first office bearers were as follows: President was Brian Clarke, Vice President was Jeanette Cook, Secretary Maryrose Whale, Treasurer Phillip McGrath, First Aid Officer Sue Hammond.
Our first event was a Christmas Party on the 11th December 2004 and was again at Brian and Marylyn's Property.
Our first ride was a St Valentines Day ride from Barry Baxter's property at Little Forest road, Milton on the 13/02/2005. We rode to the "Love Shack" for a fully catered lunch in a lovely location with gorgeous views back to the coast.
Over the years we have established a bush camp at Cadgee. We originally started with a donated caravan. Which now sees lots of improvements. A roof over the caravan, with storage. Rock camping oven with chimney. Toilet, various water tanks and even now a hot shower. We have also had tables, chairs and other kitchen items gladly donated to make it a home away from home by the river.
Our Annual General Meeting is in February each year. We have a few rides we do annually. St Valentines Day each February. A camp for St Patrick's Day with a party on Saturday night with dress up's galore in March. And a camp on the long weekend in October- The Bob Carden Memorial Ride. This is an annual ride in memory of Bob Cardin the gentleman who owned Cadgee were our camp is situated.
Over the years we have donated several thousand dollars to charity, mostly to The Snowy Hydro Helicopter Service, ( I guess you never know when we might need it).
In 2003 we took steps to become incorporated and changed our name to
" Wanderas " so it was easier to spell and pronounce. We now have a few more positions; two Vice Presidents, A Ride Secretary, Publicity Officer, Web site Co-ordinator and Catering officer.
This year we celebrated 10 years as a Club. Should you be interested in joining us please do not hestitate to contact us via our Secretary Julia Short on 4474 5412
